It also helps in general with modeling, as the faster you can navigate and spin around a complex model to see the outline from all angles, the better. this is exactly where having faster ogl helps, it reduces frustration and wasted time. Well right there you mention getting impatient at slow screen redraw. nevertheless I keep on hoping for beter performance in the next OS-upgrade (or maybe the next after the next). Renderspeed is for me the most important at the moment. But for most of my modelling OGL isn’t that imprtant, or am I wrong? Maybe I’m not aware of the pleasures of high OGL-performance. OpenGL’s performance on mac is bit pathetic I agree, but how often is that really a problem? I work with fairly complicated scenes and get a bit impatient from time to time with slow screen redraw. I love using my mac’s, but until apple can resolve their woeful ogl (and i’ve never found much difference between high and low end gfx cards on the mac to be honest), i’m only going to be using them for 2d, editing and audio work. and remember if you’ve got the studio bundle, then you’ve already got unlimited net licenses, so there’s nothing stopping you simply adding extra machines of either type to you setup (apart from some issues with things like mocca and thinking particles in mixed networks). a render farm of lower end amd’s, the net result will be faster. even if you go for individually slower machines, e.g. honestly though i still think bang for buck, you’ll find pc’s cheaper. for rendering, well it’s up to you really. so if you want to use your pc’s for modeling etc, then go for that. Pc’s are far better on ogl performance, even on exactly the same graphics card as the mac, the difference is insane.
